Canva: Why go pro

One of our favourite apps to be developed over recent years must be Canva, the online design tool.

When it comes to creating creative content this easy-to-use software makes light work of design. Forget the complexities of Adobe Indesign. If you can use word, you can use Canva.

You can access the software via the website or dedicated app. With so many templates that are there to adapt or for design inspiration, it can make a designer out of anyone. Whether it’s creating Insta reels, Facebook adverts, Eventbrite banners or presentations, there’s a wide variety of templates available.

Is Canva pro worth it?

What does Canva pro include… there is a whole host of functionality available on the free plan you can create social media graphics and access 57,000 graphic design elements without having to upgrade to pro. But if it’s for creating more sophisticated content or for professional use, the pro version’s time-saving features and collaborative functionality make it a no-brainer!

Here’s some of our favourite pro features to elevate your designs to the next level:

One click background remover:

This pro feature means you can remove the background from images and logos with just the click of a button giving your designs a more seamless look. No more white boxes!

QR Code generator:

Making your own QR codes have never been easier with Canva Pro. Just add your URL and they will create a QR code for you to add to your designs meaning people can easily access your link.

Brand Kits:

One of our favourite features of Pro Canva is the Brand Kit section allowing all your designs to have a strong brand identity. Although this feature is available on the free version, it’s very limiting in that you can only access one colour palette with 3 colours.
With Canva Pro you can add endless logos, upload your own fonts and create and add team members.

Content Planner:

A great new addition to the Pro plan is Canva’s own Content Planner and Scheduler, this means you can create, plan and schedule social content all in one place. No need to download and upload your content to a separate scheduler, saving you time and money.

Pro Images:

There is a fantastic variety of professional photography available via the Pro option which otherwise would carry a cost. These images really can make a difference to your content, and if you are prone to using photography, then the Pro version makes total sense.

Sign up for free

The good news is that if you’re a student, teacher or non-profit organisation you can get Canva Pro for free, by simply selecting the relevant organisation option. If you’re not, you can still try out all Pro features for free using their one-month free trial. Can I cancel Canva Pro anytime you ask? Yes! cancel anytime if it’s not for you.

Canva is an online tool so if you have no or limited access to the internet it won’t be for you.

Ultimately, whether you decide to upgrade or not comes down to how much time you spend on the app and what you use it for. Great social content and basic designs for things like posters or business cards are more than achievable with the free version. But, if you work in marketing, or plan to use Canva as your main design software, upgrading to Pro is, in our opinion, essential and definitely worth the £120 annual fee.

(ps. We are in no way affiliated with Canva and other options may be available!)
