Marie Kondo your marketing for 2023!

The start of a new year can be a great opportunity to review your marketing activity, but it can feel overwhelming.

There are huge benefits to conducting a full, deep delve marketing audit which involves reviewing performance, buyer personas, customer research, and deep diving into those insights to see what is working and what isn’t.

But the reality is we sometimes don’t have the capacity to do that, so ahead of 2023, we’re sharing our top 10 tips for reviewing your marketing.

Here’s our review checklist to Marie Kondo your marketing.

1.Your website

Sift through your site for broken links, you can use a checker like this to speed this up (especially if you blog). Check your social buttons work, update outdated content such as privacy policies and old services. Change your copyright date in the footer from 2022 to 2023.

2. Your brand mission, vision and values

A lot can change in a year, do your business values align with your current services the market. Has the mission and vision changed? This is a good point to really look at what you offer, why you offer it and to who.

3.Google my business

If you have a google my business profile, check for the correct opening hours, contact details and fresh images and respond to the reviews. If you don’t have one, set one up.

4. Email list

Clean up your subscriber list, it is no use keeping disengaged subscribers on your list or broken email addresses which are undelivered and remove any irrelevant segments/ tags.

5. Check your reviews

Ensure your online reputation remains in tip top condition. Check and reply to any google reviews, Facebook and Trustpilot reviews. Why not also capture some of those great ones to use in your marketing.

6. Update directories and profiles

Are you listed on any free industry listings or website directories? A quick google search should bring up this data. Add fresh images, update links and any outdated information

7. Paid advertisements

Do you run Google or Facebook ads? Are these performing well? Are they current and directing your clients to the right place. Don’t forget to review any physical advertisements due to print again in the new year - magazine listings, newspapers, local publications, billboards.

8. SEO

Establish your key search terms, you can use things like Keyword Overview to do this. You can then optimise your page titles, meta descriptions and heading tags to improve on-page SEO.

9. Review your social media bio and Linktree links

Head to your bios on all your social media platforms to check they reflect your offer and business. A bio should be captivating and insightful and have a call to action. Linktree is a great way of showcasing more than one URL your call to actions can point to. Remove any deadlinks and include the important ones. Although the school of thought is now that you should only have one dedicated link in your bio section to not overwhelm consumers, until Instagram makes post links fully clickable this just isn’t viable. Instead make sure you only have essential links in you  with clear direct titles.

10. Photography/Video content

People buy from people. Sharing your face and that of the people who work in your business is a great way of developing g a trust and connection. Check you have an updated set of professional images and/or video – don’t want to have dated images that don’t actually reflect what you look like now. The Branding Photographer offers a great package to ensure regular images are taken throughout the year.
